Vicky and Larry’s Layer Marney Tower Wedding

Layer Marney Tower Wedding Photography

I recently had the pleasure of photographing a truly delightful October wedding at the fabulous Layer Marney Tower in Essex for Vicky and Larry. The day was filled with so much joy and laughter, creating a truly amazing celebration. The beautiful winter sunshine added a perfect touch to the entire event. Layer Marney Tower wedding photography is always a pleasure for me as it is the venue my wife and I were married in 2014, working there brings back so many happy memories.

Stunning Essex Wedding Venue

The venue itself was simply stunning. Layer Marney Tower is a magnificent incomplete early Tudor country house in Essex, England. It is England’s tallest Tudor gatehouse and is known for its rich red brick and exquisite Italianate terracotta.

Vicky and Larry were truly great fun to work with and trusted me with the photo locations and ideas I suggested which I think has resulted in some lovely photographs. Their love and bond were evident in every moment, making it a pleasure to photograph them. They were the epitome of elegance, choosing a timeless black tie theme for their wedding.

Black Tie Wedding at Layer Marney Tower

The black tie theme added a sense of sophistication and glamour to the wedding. The guests were dressed to the nines, creating a truly elegant atmosphere. The classic attire complemented the historic setting perfectly, making every photograph a pleasure to capture.

Beautiful Winter Sunshine

One of the highlights of the day was the fantastic winter sunshine. It bathed the venue in a warm and golden glow, adding a touch of magic to the celebrations. When you get strong sunshine you do have to think carefully about the photographs you take to make sure you avoid harsh lighting on people, sometimes harsh light can work to your advantage but it is often best to avoid it for the couple photographs. Layer Marney Tower offers so many beautiful locations that finding good light isn’t a problem.

Throughout the day, there was an incredible energy of happiness and joy that filled the air. Laughter echoed through the venue, creating an atmosphere of pure delight. It was a pleasure to be a part of such a celebration and to capture the genuine moments of happiness shared by the couple and their loved ones.

Night Wedding Photography at Layer Marney Tower

Vicky had asked me to make sure I capture some night shots incorporating the Tower, this was music to my ears as I love off camera flash creative photography. I setup a two-light setup, one to light the tower and one to light the couple and was really pleased with the photographs. The key to these photographs is timing, you want to try and maintain a little colour in the sky so it is blue rather than black and we achieved this perfectly.

Overall, Vicky and Larry’s October black tie wedding was an unforgettable experience. The combination of a great couple, a timeless black tie theme, elegant surroundings, beautiful winter sunshine, and a historic building made it a truly remarkable celebration. I am honoured to have been a part of it and to have captured the moments that will be cherished for a lifetime.
