Terrie and Stuarts Butlers Farm Stables Engagement Shoot

Engagement Photography With Pets

Although Terrie and Stuart had to postpone their wedding until next year due to COVID they decided to go ahead with their pre-wedding engagement shoot. When discussing location ideas Terrie mentioned she had a horse and thought it would be nice for him to feature in some of their engagement photographs, I love working with animals so jumped at the chance to photograph more horses.

They say never work with children or animals, funnily enough, I did both on this day as I had a family shoot later in the day with a toddler. The horse was an ex-racehorse and a real gentle giant, he was an absolute pleasure to have on the shoot and I think added something really special to the engagement shoot.

Butlers Farm Stables Engagement Shoot

I arrived at 10 which gave Terrie time to get Glaish looking good and he really did look good, even his feet where polished and shining in the sunlight. We walked around the Butlers Farm stables which are surrounded by farmland in Rochford and we picked several different locations. The sky was really nice with just the right amount of cloud to diffuse the sunlight, but also being nice and bright, I made sure to capture several photographs with my signature dramatic sky.

I have wanted to do a low key photograph featuring a horse, after explaining what this looked like Terrie was up for giving it a go. To get this shot we used the dark stable and a single off-camera flash to light just the horse with Terrie and Stuart. Glaish was a little suspicious of me when I brought the light and softbox into his stable so I captured the shot quickly and left him to chill out.

The icing on the cake with this shoot was when Terrie and Stuart sent me a photograph of their lounge with one of the shots we captured printed on canvas, they were thrilled with the shots!

Essex Engagement Shoots

Engagement shoots are great for having a little practice run at being photographed ahead of the big day, they are fun and relaxed and something I definitely recommend especially if you have any concerns about being photographed. You don’t have the time constraints of a wedding day so I can spend more time running through a few techniques to make you look amazing in your photographs.
